The Geelong community took the r u ok idea to heart and the simple concept of asking someone if they are ok struck a chord with all sectors of the community participants in the inaugural year included schools, retail businesses, hairdressers, concreters, community houses, doctors surgeries and fitness centres.

Corio Bay Senior College and senior students from Flinders Peak and Norlane Secondary College are joining together for R U OK day.  The day will be themed "getting a natural high" and will be a carnival atmosphere with lots of activites and food vendors emphasising healthy food and fun.

Sacred Heart College Geelong

Students will participate in a shared picnic lunch while listening to the College Jazz Band.  To signify the day, girls will be encouraged to wear green ribbons in their hair and they may also have their hair sprayed green.  Apples will also be given out at recess.

Staff will participate in a morning tea and also a Wellbeing afternoon session.  After school staff are able to select an activity to participate in including rock climbing, cooking, textiles, artistic expression, basketball, badminton, book club, zumba, meditation and yoga.

Stoofa's  Fitness and St Laurence Community Services

Stoofa’s Fitness and St Laurence Community Services are organising the biggest personal training session for the Guinness World Record.  7 October 10am at Geelong Cricket Ground at Kardinia Park.

It will be a half an hour session designed for all shapes, sizes and fitness and most importantly it will be fun!

Toni van Hamond, and her guests, will join me in the studios at 94.7 The Pulse from 11.00 a.m. till noon on the 5th October.

They will chat with me about why we have such a day, what will be happening in and around Geelong, and give us a few pointers on how to react when you ask someone "R U OK?", and they tell you they are "pissed off about  ..."!!!! (To quote Gavin Larkin, Founder R U OK?, when he was asked!).

GMHBA wll be supporting RUOK? day 2010. Information about suicide prevention, positive mental health and posters supporting RUOK? day will also be on display in the branches. G21 are proud to support R U OK day again this year.

We are actually going to hold our event a day earlier to maximise staff participation - so we will be holding an afternoon tea on Wednesday 6 October at our offices in Geelong.  This will give us the opportunity to ask "RU OK" to all of our staff.

In addition, we are keen to promote this event by dressing in green - the colours of RU OK day.

The Street Surfer Bus will be visiting a number of sites during the R U O.K day. The bus is resourced with information of services that young people can access if requiring support. The bus also has a number of activities to entertain young people. The bus will be present at Headspace Geelong at approx 12:30pm and at the launch of Headspace Bellarine at approx 2:30pm. The bus windows have posters representing the green R U OK apples and the bus will be filled with green apples!
