Dr John Beaumont
Dr Beaumont is Vocationally Registered and undertakes Quality Assurance and continuing medial education requirements to maintain and improve the quality of care.  He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and also a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.
Dr Beaumont has been a Lorne GP for 24 years and at Aireys Inlet for 10 years.  He enjoys a wide variety of rural general practice.  He has been teaching medical students for 22 years and supervising Registrars since 2004.  He is a clinical Fellow of Melbourne University Department of General Practice.

Dr Ern Chang
Dr Chang joined the practice in November 2008.  He has been in full-time medical practice for over 11 years, spending the majority of the time in general practice.  He has attained advanced general practice qualifications in Singapore, where he is a member of the College of Family Physicians (Singapore).  Dr Chang consults at both the Lorne and Aireys Inlet Medical Centres.

About the Practice:
Aireys Inlet Medical Centre is situated on the Great Ocean Road in the seaside town of Aireys Inlet. It is the only medical practice in Aireys Inlet and Dr Beaumont shares his time equally between Aireys Inlet and his other clinic in Lorne, another popular seaside town approximately 20 kilometres away on the Great Ocean Road.
Aireys Inlet has a permanent population of 800. Lorne, a permanent population of 900.

However, both are tourist towns and always have visitors and Lorne can experience a 10 fold increase in the peak holiday seasons of Christmas and Easter.
Many retirees reside in Aireys Inlet and Lorne as well as many young families. The main employment is in tourism and service industries.

The Practice aims to provide high quality, comprehensive General Practice to individuals and families in the Aireys Inlet / Lorne Region and visitors to the area; and to adhere to the AMA's code of ethics. Complete confidentiality within the doctor – patient relationship is assured.
Doctors have access to an appropriately equipped consultation room, emergency treatment room, tea room.
The building has air conditioning and suitable heating.
We are a teaching practice for medial students and have students every year for a five week placement.  We also have three John Flynn Scholarship students who have two week placement with us each year.

Clinical Resource Equipment:

Each consulting room is equipped with a computer providing access to the internet.  We have an extensive medical library with appropriate clinical equipment including ECG machines, oxygen, liquid nitrogen for cryotherapy, treatment rooms for excisions and wound management.

Diagnostic Facilities Available:
The practice has an ECG machine, dermatoscope, spirometer, nebuliser and full pathology collection service with daily courier.  Xray facilities are located at Lorne.

Allied Health Facilities on Site:

There is an onsite physiotherapist, podiatrist, psychologist, dietitian, diabetic educator and practice nurse.  A mobile optical service and audiology service is also available at Lorne.

Patient Numbers:

Consultations are by appointment.  We have a flexible appointment system to accommodate for urgent or complicated problems.  Most consultations average 10 minutes with approximately 20 patients per 3.2 hour session.

Services Provided:

A full range of patients are seen.  Services provided include:

  • Accident, emergency and general medical care for all ages
  • Advice on illness prevention, nutrition, exercise, stress management and maintenance of healthy lifestyle
  • Health screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer of the cervix (Pap tests) and breast cancer
  • Women’s  health/Men’s health – advice and screening
  • General immunization and travel advice
  • Shared pregnancy care, family planning/contraceptive advice
  • Fitness advice and management of sporting injuries
  • Minor surgical procedures: suturing, removal of skin tumours
  • Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen
  • Palliative and terminal care in conjunction with local home-based health services

There is a mix of privately billed and bulk billed patients.  We have an experienced Practice Manager. 
The Practice also provides home visits when required, and cares for residents at the Anglesea Nursing Home.

Health Promotion Activities:
The practice participate in Divisional activities and is regularly involved in health promotion activities in conjunction with the Lorne Community Hospital health programs.  The practice supports health promotion at corporate events.  The Practice Nurse provides individual health promotion and ensures resources are available.

Both Aireys Inlet Medical Centre & Lorne Medical Centre are open Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.00pm
