About the Practice:
The practice is located on the corner of Cox Road, Bacchus Marsh Rd, and Princes Highway on the northern outskirts of the city of Geelong. Corio is Geelong’s largest working-class suburb, and services about 15,000 patients with a broad range of ages and problems, but there is a predominance of young families, mostly of lower socio-economic class, without private health insurance.
The practice has been fully accredited since 2001.

With nursing support, the practice is open 7 days a week.  There are 12 doctors covering these hours, with individual doctors working between 1 and 10 sessions per week, and 1 in 3 weekends.  The practice is almost fully computerised with almost all of the clinical records on computer.  Broadband Internet connection is available on every doctor’s desktop computer at all times. The practice is fully computerized with all of the clinical records on computer.

The Corio Medical Clinic, established in 1994 when the medical service at Corio Community Health Centre was privatised, is situated in Corio, a suburb on the Northern side of Geelong. Geelong itself is Victoria's second largest City and is located on the shores of Corio Bay, 75 kilometres southwest of Melbourne. Victoria’s best beaches are within 30 minutes drive and there is great sailing available 5 minutes away in Corio Bay. Geelong also boasts world class local schooling with arguably Australia’s most famous school, Geelong Grammar School, situated 5 minutes from the practice. Corio is 10 minutes from the CBD of Geelong and 40 minutes from the CBD of Melbourne by car. Corio is a very socially disadvantaged area with a high proportion of residents on Government welfare and a high level of unemployment.

The clinic is a busy family practice with a large focus of disease prevention and the treatment of chronic disease. It is supported by the Geelong Hospital, one of Victoria’s biggest and busiest public hospitals which is only 10 minutes away. The clinic has 13 doctors (about 11 full-time equivalent), 3 full-time practice nurses, a diabetic educator and physiotherapist supported by a large team of receptionists and office staff. The doctors and staff come from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds and work extremely well together in a happy, productive working environment. Our patients extend across all ranges from young families to the elderly. The three partners and ten associates in the practice all share similar values, ethics and practice philosophy and are committed to comprehensive high quality patient care.

During these times patients are also able to walk in to the clinic with urgent problems. In addition, before 8am and after 6pm on weekdays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays, the practice operates as a walk-in urgent clinic. The practice provides an after-hours phone service but this is completely covered by the practice principal. There are also two on-site pathology collection centres, audiology services and an integrated diabetes service with visiting podiatrist and dietitian.
The practice is a teaching practice for medical students and GP registrars in training. The practice is highly computerized with all script writing, accounting and appointments via computer. There are also computerized recall and research facilities to promote preventive care initiatives.

Doctors at the clinic consult between one and ten sessions per week and contribute to the evening clinic on an optional basis. All doctors contribute to the weekend roster working one session of between 3 and 5 hours every third weekend.

Practice nurses provide coverage between 8am and 8pm weekdays and from 9am to 1 pm on weekends.

Any Doctor considering joining us at Corio Medical Clinic can look forward to working in a supportive team environment where his/her input is highly valued and will contribute to improving the health of the more disadvantaged members of our community.  As part of our team you can enjoy living in a thriving coastal area that has everything a big city has to offer.  We have regular clinical meetings with invited medical specialists and our own CPD program. We also participate in local Division continuing professional development opportunities.  We value family life and endeavor to create the balance between work demands and family time.
