Program Summary:Patients that are on a GP management Plan (GPMP) and a Team Care Arrangement (TCA) can access the following allied health and dental care item numbers once both the GPMP and the TCA have been claimed. There are a total of 5 allied health and 3 dental services available in any calendar year. These can be 5 allied health services with the same allied health professional, or a mix of 5 services with different providers. The GP must complete an EPC referral form for each allied health professional or dental service involved. It is not expected that the GP would do a repeat GPMP and TCA for each new set of EPC referrals – the review of the GPMP or TCA is sufficient to trigger a second set of five allied health services and three dental care services for the next calendar year. Eligible allied health professionals need to register with Medicare Australia to provide services under this initiative.
Updates/Latest Developments:On 1 January 2009, the requirement, that a Medicare rebate for the prerequisite Chronic Disease Management (CDM) care planning items must be claimed before associated allied helath services can be provided and claimed, was removed. The Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Nicola Roxon MP, announced these changes on 9 December 2008 as part of an MBS review. These new arrangements will overcome delays experienced by patients and allied health providers when they claim the Medicare rebate for an allied health service, where they have a valid referral, but where a cliam for the CDM
